Join free BASC webinar on gamebird releasing on protected sites

Pheasant in flight

BASC is inviting shoot owners, gamekeepers, shoot captains, and all those affected by changes to gamebird releasing in England to register for a free online webinar.

Taking place on Wednesday 23 April at 7pm, the webinar will explore the recent developments in gamebird releasing regulations announced by Natural England (NE), with insight from BASC’s game and wildlife management, legal and science teams.

The changes mean that all shoots who plan to release gamebirds on or within 500m of Special Protection Areas in England will need an individual licence to do so, with NE advising that not all who apply will be granted a licence.

Find out about the support available through BASC

The first webinar, held on 15 April, was attended by more 80 participants, many of whom represented shoots impacted by the recent changes, which are linked to avian influenza controls. BASC’s experts provided a comprehensive overview of the situation, outlining the background to the current circumstances, offering practical advice, and informing of the support available through BASC to help shoots navigate the licensing process.

With growing concern about the future of shoots in large parts of England, the second session offers a valuable opportunity to stay informed, ask questions, and share your thoughts on the issues at hand.

Gareth Dockerty, BASC’s executive director of shooting and operations, said: “We know there’s huge uncertainty out there, and it’s vital that those affected are supported and equipped with the facts. If you’re running a shoot which is impacted, this session is for you. Please get in touch and register to attend today.”

The webinar session is open to BASC members and non-members, and you can register now via the below form. If you are not sure whether your shoot is affected by the changes, contact your local BASC team today for assistance
