“We all have a duty and we all have a responsibility” said BASC vice chair Claire Sadler to more than than 100 people attending BASC’s Women in Shooting event at The Game Fair.
Saturday at The Game Fair marked the third anniversary of the launch of BASC’s Women in Shooting initiative and BASC vice chair, Claire Sadler, used the opportunity to issue a call to action.
Speaking at the Women in Shooting reception, Claire said: “For everyone here, it comes as no surprise to any one of us that we are facing numerous and well-documented threats to our way of life and livelihoods. We can now no longer have passive members of our community.
“Now is the time to rally, and to be counted. I want to ask every person here to take on individual accountability by selling our community, sharing our way of life and actively contribute to ensure that we can continue to thrive.”
She asked those in attendance to think on how they could encourage more people to share in our way of life. Claire also reinforced the importance of the bodies which represent people in fieldsports, saying: “If you are not a member of any of the organisations that are relentlessly fighting for the future of shooting, you are not being counted and you are not doing one of the easiest things you can do to help us thrive.
“A unified, rallied and passionate community is powerful. We all have a duty and we all have a responsibility.”
The Women in Shooting event at The Game Fair followed receptions at the Scottish Game Fair earlier in July, and at the Royal Welsh Show at the beginning of last week. These events provide the opportunity for women (and men) from different aspects of fieldsports to come together, share ideas and help to get new people involved.
BASC Women in Shooting also runs hands-on events during the year which allow you to try different shooting disciplines, or hone your skills. Find our more here.
