If you have duck nest tubes on your ground, you could win a ZEISS Secacam 3 this summer by recording mallard nesting success and sending the results back to us.
If you, your shoot or club have duck nest tubes on your land and monitor and submit your observations to BASC from the 2026 mallard breeding season, you will be entered into a draw to win a superb ZEISS Secacam 3 wide-angle trail camera. The camera is designed for monitoring nesting activity and wildlife movement.
The Duck Nest Monitoring Project is an international citizen science initiative run through the Waterfowlers’ Network, with BASC representing the UK. By monitoring artificial nesting structures such as duck nest tubes and boxes, participants help build a clearer picture of mallard breeding success and the factors that affect it.
Last year’s prize draw winners were King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Wildfowlers Association, its members recognised for their commitment to duck nest monitoring and conservation work at a local level.
Sophie Stafford, scientific advisor at BASC, said: “The information submitted through this project is crucial to improving our understanding of mallard breeding success using artificial nesting structures, and the factors that influence it. Everyone who takes part is directly supporting that research and conservation efforts on the ground.”
If you submit duck nest monitoring observations from the 2026 breeding season, you will be entered into the draw to win a ZEISS Secacam 3 wide-angle trail camera.
The camera features a 100° field of view for monitoring larger areas, low-light recording capability and fast motion detection, making it ideal for observing nesting and wildlife activity with minimal disturbance.
Complete the online form between 10 July and 25 September 2026 to enter.
The prize draw is open to all participants who submit observations through BASC’s online form during the submission window of 10 July to 25 September 2026. Anyone wishing to opt out of the prize draw will be able to indicate this on the form.

A project to protect the habitat and breeding grounds of waterbirds in Lithuania has been boosted by a pledge of €17,000 from the WHCT.

During the harshest, coldest, and most desolate days of the winter months, a remarkable symbiosis unfolds on the foreshore.

Once occupied, installing duck nest tubes can increase mallard hatching rates to more than 90 per cent.
