More than 100 gamekeepers joined BASC’s recent online conferences, highlighting the strong demand for clear, practical guidance at a time of significant change across the sector.
Delivered in a new evening webinar format, the northern and southern events enabled working keepers from across the country to access the latest updates without the need to travel, while also taking part in live Q&A sessions with BASC specialists directly involved in shaping and responding to these issues.
The conferences covered a range of key topics affecting shoots, including gamebird release and the law, general licences, political engagement, the government’s animal welfare strategy and Schedule 2 review, and the England Deer Impact Policy.
Speaking after the events, BASC’s deputy director of shooting and operations, Terry Behan, said: “We were delighted with both the turnout and the level of engagement. Moving these annual events online has allowed gamekeepers from across the country to attend, regardless of location, while reducing both cost and disruption to the working day.
“There is a huge amount happening right now, and it is vital that gamekeepers have access to clear, authoritative information. These events are about making sure they can hear directly from the BASC experts leading this work and get answers to the questions that matter to them.”
BASC remains uniquely placed to work across these complex and fast-moving policy areas, bringing together legal, scientific and practical expertise from within the organisation to support members and represent your interests at every level. Supported by the BASC Fighting Fund, this work continues to provide practical support and deliver real outcomes for members.
