Heading to the GWCT Scottish Game Fair this weekend? We have brought together our comprehensive guide to this year’s fair as it gears up for a much-welcomed return to Scone Palace after 2020’s covid-enforced break.
Here is our top ten for the weekend:
The working tests are sited in a new purpose-built arena this year, and there is something for everyone to get involved in. From spaniel and retriever tests, the scurry, and junior handler competitions to the Four Nations International Gundog Competition, be sure to stop by The World of Gundogs during your visit to the show.
See the gundogs schedule here.
The Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT)’s Covey is a must for families coming to this year’s Scottish Game Fair. The Covey is packed with opportunities sure to pique the interest of any budding young scientist, including the state-of-the-art Bio Bus.
Join us on the BASC stand (Gunmakers Row, G28) at 5pm on Friday 24 September for an exclusive reception for BASC members. The event will be attended by BASC’s chairman, Eoghan Cameron, as well as several MSPs.Â
The event will see us launching an ambitious new initiative to open up more deer stalking opportunities for trained recreational deer stalkers on public land. A selection of light food and refreshments will be available.Â
Featuring junior quad bikes, climbing walls, ferrets and laser tag among its attractions, Activity Row also plays host to Lolly Clark from Amara Bush Crafts. Previously Ray Mears’ head instructor, Lolly will be hosting open bush crafting sessions every day throughout the weekend.
As you would expect, there are shooting opportunities galore at this year’s GWCT Scottish Game Fair. Clay competitions include the pool shoot, club class 40-sporting and the Strathallan Colts Clay Competition, complemented by have-a-go opportunities for those requiring a bit more guidance.Â
Join Amy from Hipsters and Hobos for a unique foraging experience through the grounds of Scone Palace.
Build up your identification skills, gather a range of edible plants, seeds, fruit and fungi, before returning to the food tent to prepare a wild food inspired dish.Â
Pre-booking is essential on this one, so head to the Game Fair website to secure your place.
No trip to the Scottish Game Fair is complete without a pipe band or two, and they will be out in force with the Vale of Atholl, Blairgowrie and Perth & District teams in attendance during the show. Add in to this gundog displays, terrier racing and Balmoral hill pony demonstrations to deliver a packed schedule of entertainment and insight over all three days.
