New BASC DSC1 course cuts costs and saves time for members

BASC’s assessment-only DSC1 days are now available to book, offering a significant saving on the cost of a traditional DSC1 course.

BASC has introduced a new, more flexible way to achieve the Deer Stalking Certificate (DSC1). For those seeking certification but unable to commit to a four-day course, BASC’s new assessment-only days offer an efficient alternative, reducing time and cost.

Assessment-only days are held at various locations across the UK. Participants will be able to take all five required modules in just one day.

Before attending, our DSC1 manual is available for £15 (digital) or £27 (hard copy),  allowing you to prepare in advance. A set of online revision questions will also be available for practice; letting you study at your own pace and come prepared for the assessments.

Why choose an assessment-only DSC1 day?

For BASC members, the assessment-only day offers substantial savings, priced at £145, compared to more than £300 for the full four-day course. All five DSC1 modules are accessible, including written multiple-choice exams, game meat hygiene, visual species identification, safety, and shooting assessments.

Participants who pass all modules during an assessment-only day receive the Deer Management Qualification (DMQ) Deer Stalking Certificate 1. They will also be able to advance to the DSC2 for full certification under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2004.

Dr Peter Marshall, BASC’s head of training and education said: “We’re delighted to offer an assessment-only option for the Deer Stalking Certificate 1. This new approach allows members to achieve their qualification at a fraction of the usual cost.

“The streamlined format not only offers considerable savings, but also reduces the need for extended travel and overnight stays. This makes the process more accessible for those who can’t more than one day away.

“BASC remains committed to providing flexible, affordable training that supports responsible deer management promotes best practice.”
