Ninety women travelled from all over the UK to take part in the Wilde & Glorious Ladies Cup, sponsored by BASC, at Holland & Holland’s prestigious shooting grounds on Saturday.
The event, run by Wilde & Glorious and part of BASC’s Women in Shooting initiative, reflected the diversity and enthusiasm of women in the sport, with classes catering for complete beginners through to seasoned competitors.
Guests were welcomed by BASC vice chair Claire Sadler, who thanked them for attending and then handed over to the founder of Wilde & Glorious, Katie Absalom.
Competitors from the intermediate and ‘serious shots’ groups made their way to the main ground to begin the competition, and those in the novice groups received expert tuition from Holland & Holland’s experienced instructors.
Following the competition, guests had a chance to try their hand at Le Chameau welly wanging and to try out BASC’s virtual reality shooting simulator.
The day’s high gun award went to Steph Davey with a score of 74. Megan Barrett topped the intermediate class and Jen Shields won the novice class.
The event also raised £500 for the breast cancer awareness charity, CoppaFeel, through donations and support on the day.
And Claire Sadler was interviewed as part of an on-location recording of the Guns on Pegs podcast.
Speaking after the event, she said: “This isn’t just a shooting competition, it’s a movement. What we have seen in our second year is undeniable momentum, which culminated in 90 women travelling from all over the country to attend. These events are important as they build confidence, provide accessibility and shift perceptions of those that shoot.
“We are proud to sponsor the event as it showcases the true heart of shooting and helps to protect its future. The cup is fast becoming one of the most exciting fixtures in our calendars.”
BASC South East director Michelle Nudds said: “We were delighted to support the Wilde & Glorious Ladies Cup at the iconic Holland & Holland grounds once again.
“The day was stunning – the sun was shining and there were smiles all round. The day perfectly encapsulated what our Women in Shooting initiative is all about by bringing together a vibrant and growing community of women who are passionate about the countryside and shooting sports.”
Katie Absalom said: “I am absolutely delighted with how the Wilde & Glorious x BASC Ladies Cup has come together. Bringing this event to life is about far more than competition, it’s about connection.
“It’s a celebration of women from all walks of life and abilities coming together through a shared love of the outdoors, lifting each other up, and proving that support, camaraderie and confidence are at the heart of everything we do. We are also proud to have raised over £500 for cancer charity CoppaFeel.
“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the team at BASC, Holland & Holland, our brand sponsors, and everyone who continues to attend and champion our events.”
The Ladies Cup is just one of many events celebrating the growing role of Women in Shooting.
