The Intermediate deer course is designed as a step between DSC1 and DSC2. The aim of the course is to help prepare students wishing to progress to DSC2, plus to assist those new to stalking to enhance their practical experience.
England and Northern Ireland courses are run over a day and a half, with the Scotland course run over 1 full day. The curriculum will equip the candidate with the support, understanding and awareness required for the safe and correct shooting of deer, in addition to retrieval, gralloching, carcass inspection and lardering.
The course means you will be supervised for your first kill and provides practical experience in preparing the carcass for human consumption.

“A quick note to thank you very much indeed for delivering such a good course over these last two days.Â
I really enjoyed all of it, and I feel that I learned a great deal from you and your excellent colleagues.  It was all excellent, and the style of delivering the topics in the lecture room yesterday was really great. I found the course a very good step-forward from the DSC1 – and it was all very relevant for the things that we are going to need to be working on when the time to look at the DSC2 comes.
A very special thank you for letting me use your rifle – for which I am very grateful. I was sorry that I did not manage to secure a fallow with it – but in fact we managed well with all the discussion and practical hands-on opportunities, gralloching the two beasts that were shot. That also was a very good training session in which I learned a great deal.”

This Code of Practice has been produced to provide an introductory guide to deer stalking and those involved should follow the guidance described.
BASC currently has four deer stalking schemes in operation – Bowland in Lancashire, Baronscourt (Northern Ireland), East of England (near Newmarket) and Hampshire.Â
