More than 20 members of Cumbria constabulary’s firearms licensing team attended a recent awareness day run by BASC.

The training event featured presentations from BASC staff on the use of different firearms, ballistics and antique firearms. The sessions prompted wide-ranging discussion, with particular focus on land checks and certificate conditions.

The visiting staff also had the opportunity to take part in shooting activities, including trying different rifles and clay pigeon shooting.

BASC head of firearms, Martin Parker, said: “This was a great opportunity for BASC’s northern team to meet members of Cumbria’s firearms licensing department. Their firearms team have made great improvements in efficiency over the last 18 months and the day demonstrated how BASC can work together with forces, both as a critical friend and dependable knowledge reservoir.”

BASC’s north west regional officer Gavin Howe said: “Delivering this training to Cumbria police, as we’ve done with other forces, was a great opportunity for BASC to strengthen our relationship with the department. It allowed us to discuss and illustrate the use of firearms by our members, helping to improve understanding and support a more efficient service.”
