Firearms medical certificates with ShootCert
BASC works in collaboration with ShootCert to provide a trusted, quality medical verification service for firearms grant and renewal applicants, offering a discounted rate for members.
A medical certificate is now a mandatory requirement for all shotgun or firearms applications, whether this is for a first-time grant or a renewal.
Due to the British Medical Association’s almost immediate withdrawal from the initial arrangement made with the Home Office on medical verifications, GPs can (and do) refuse to engage in this process. Changing attitudes and pressures on GPs have meant that more and more practices either will not provide this service, or charge an exorbitant fee.
Run by Dr Chris Garrett, ShootCert is BASC’s preferred provider for all third-party medical verifications. BASC’s association with ShootCert replaces our previous medical panels and the collaboration is a tremendous step forward in ensuring the delivery of a high quality, trusted medical verification service.
Why is BASC working with ShootCert?
The decision to evolve from our medical panels was based on feedback from BASC members and police firearms licensing departments, in addition to consideration of the safeguards already in place within ShootCert. Chris Garrett has been a member of BASC for 40 years and his organisation is a BASC trade member.
Recent events mean that now, more than ever, our shooting sport is under increased scrutiny so it is vital that the system of medical verification is robust.
