United Utilities has taken the decision not to renew shoot leases on its land, affecting both upland and lowland landscapes.
Having given no explanation nor rationale for doing so, United Utilities will cut ties with more than 30 shoots when their leases come up for renewal; damaging lives, risking rural economies and casting aside wildlife and conservation initiatives in the areas affected.
Whether you are one of United Utilities’ 7.3 million customers, or just care about the future of shooting, conservation and rural landscapes, you can lodge a complaint directly with the company’s top level management about the decision.
Join us and stand up for shooting by emailing United Utilities’ chief executive, Louise Beardmore, directly using this email address: louise.beardmore@uuplc.co.uk.
Throughout the customer service and complaints section of its website, United Utilities asks repeatedly, “Did we fall short?”. Did we fall short for conservation, for shoots, for gamekeepers and their families, for farmers, land managers, beaters, pickers-up and for rural businesses? Falling short feels like an understatement.
BASC is mobilising a response against the company’s decision, firstly taking out a series of adverts in newspapers and digital news outlets covering United Utilities’ operating area.
The adverts featured in the Warrington Guardian and the Lancashire Telegraph, which have a combined newspaper readership of 50k and 1.7 million per month across their websites.
