“When I was told I had been successful in my application, I was extremely surprised and happy. The scholarship will allow me to do extra professional qualifications I thought I wouldn’t be able to do and help towards vital equipment needed for the course.”
“After college I hope to find a full time job as an underkeeper, where the knowledge I have learned at college aided by BASC will help me to continue and grow into my career.”
Sam Lewis
Level 3 Countryside Management (game pathway)
Location: Hartpury College
“I am very shocked and grateful to be awarded the BASC legacy scholarship. The funding will allow me to further my education in countryside management and gamekeeping. My career aim is to gain a job as a gamekeeper and keep the tradition of shooting and shooting sports alive for years to come”.
2022 Legacy Scholarship recipients
Jake Bennett

“The news that I had been shortlisted for the BASC Scholarship was a total surprise to be honest, and to be selected as a recipient has made my year!
“I’ve been passionate about game keeping and the countryside since I was very young. I love the outdoor lifestyle and being immersed in nature. I hope to play a small part in continuing and developing this way of life for the future and the BASC Scholarship will enable me to afford my studies at Sparsholt.”
Jensen Collingwood
BSc (Hons) Fishery Management and Aquaculture

“I was overwhelmed by the support I’ve gained from BASC when successfully gaining the scholarship. As part of a family that has always supported the great work BASC does in both conservation and shooting backgrounds, it’s amazing to have the opportunity to work with BASC further as I continue my studies in fishery’s management and aquatic science at Sparsholt to bachelors level.”
2021 Legacy Scholarship recipients
Lucy Marsden
BSc (Hons) Countryside and Environment Management
Location: Harper Adams University
Reacting to the news, Lucy said: “It is a huge honour to be awarded the BASC Legacy Scholarship, I will be able to use the fund to support my study programme and research projects.”
“I am very grateful to BASC for this opportunity and look forward to keeping BASC members up to date on my progress.”
Lucy will use the funding to assist with her placement year with the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, where she is working an upland research assistant.
Oscar Caunce
BSc (Hons) in Ecology and Conservation
Location: Edge Hill University
In response to his success, Oscar said: “I am overwhelmed to be awarded the BASC Legacy Scholarship.
“I feel very fortunate to be presented with an opportunity like this. The scholarship will help grow my knowledge and skills to help preserve wildlife and biodiversity for future generations.”
