Grant funding for deer management in protected landscapes

deer management

Deer managers working within England’s National Parks and National Landscapes (formerly Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty) are being encouraged to explore funding through the Farming in Protected Landscapes programme.

What does FiPL offer to deer managers?

The Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) scheme provides financial support for projects that assist deer management while delivering wider environmental benefits.

Previous FiPL grants have helped fund deer chillers, high seats, deer larders, extraction equipment and deer management training, alongside other projects that support habitat management and venison production.

To secure funding, you will need to show how your project will improve deer management and reduce the impact of deer on sensitive habitats. Better deer management can support woodland regeneration, habitat recovery, biodiversity and carbon storage.

FiPL is open to farmers and land managers in England’s National Parks, National Landscapes and the Broads. Funding is available for projects that deliver benefits for nature, climate, people or place, with the level of grant depending on the type of project and the public benefit it delivers. The programme is currently open until March 2029.

If you’re involved in deer management within a National Park or National Landscape, we’d encourage you to contact your local protected landscape team to discuss project ideas and eligibility.
