There’s just one week left to submit entries for the prestigious BASC Tower Bird Trophies, which celebrate excellence in field trial competitions.
The deadline for entries is 31 May 2025, and BASC is encouraging all eligible handlers to come forward and ensure their achievements are recognised.
The awards recognise top-tier performance by the most successful young dogs from the previous field trial season across four categories: retrievers, spaniels, HPR breeds, and pointers or setters. Winners are determined through a cumulative points system, and the coveted trophies will be awarded during a special ceremony at The Game Fair, taking place this year at Ragley Hall from 25–27 July.
Named in honour of Noel M. (Tim) Sedgewick, the late editor in chief of The Shooting Times and Country Magazine, the Tower Bird Trophies commemorate his legacy as a passionate advocate for field sports. Sedgewick, who wrote under the pen name “Tower Bird”, remains a revered figure within the gundog and shooting communities.
BASC’s gamekeeping and working dog advisor, Gerald Hunston, said: “The Tower Bird Trophies represent a lasting tradition of recognising brilliance in the field. With the entry window closing soon, now’s the time to make sure your results are counted.
“We’re proud to keep Tim Sedgewick’s legacy alive by honouring the achievements of both dogs and their handlers who strive to uphold the highest standards in the field trialling world.”
Last year’s winners included Laura Hill with FTCH Jarailstar Hogen Stauntonvale (Retriever), Steve Bolton with Dashbrook Typhoon (Spaniel), Lee Loveridge with Sutchest Schwartz Hugo (HPR), and Steve Robinson: FTCH Cold Coats Ginny (Pointer/Setter).

It is a pleasure to share the company of a dog when stalking deer, but our four-legged friends are far from nice-to-have accessories, says Rod Greenwood.
