Role information

The manager is responsible for the delivery of BASC’s highest-profile events, including some training programmes. These are key to BASC’s member engagement, brand presence and partnership delivery.

The role will lead all planning and operational delivery for key events, coordinating with multiple departments across BASC, managing third-party suppliers and event organisers and ensuring high standards of execution across all aspects of the events. This includes pre-event planning, on-site management, budget management, and post-event debrief and evaluation.

The manager will also contribute to stand design, member engagement strategy and internal co-ordination across departments, to ensure BASC’s objectives are met at every stage. In addition, the role will support ad hoc activity across other events where required, contributing to the smooth delivery of the wider event calendar.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

  1. Planning and delivery of key events:
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of key events in BASC’s calendar, including pre-event planning, budgets, logistics, timelines, contractor management and on-site execution.
  • Develop event schedules, resourcing plans, risk assessments and operational documentation.
  • Act as central point of contact with event organisers, suppliers, contractors and internal teams.
  • Ensure brand alignment, messaging and member experience are consistently delivered across each event.
  1. Stand design and on-site execution:
  • Work with internal teams (including marketing, membership, policy, commercial and regional/country teams) to plan and deliver stand layout, build and visitor flow.
  • Manage supplier relationships for stand build and infrastructure.
  • Oversee and be responsible for on-site delivery including build-up, live days and breakdown, ensuring health and safety, compliance and operational continuity.
  • Lead the delivery team briefing and ensure all staff and volunteers are prepared and supported.
  • Responsible for onsite health and safety, briefings to staff and documentation.
  1. Cross-team collaboration and reporting:
  • Liaise with colleagues across departments to gather input, content, staffing and campaign alignment for key events.
  • Contribute to the development of event objectives, performance metrics and post-event evaluation reports.
  • Support the regional and membership teams in documenting and developing repeatable processes for event planning and delivery.
  1. Wider event support:
  • Provide operational and planning support across other BASC events where required.
  • Working flexibly across the events calendar to support delivery peaks.
  • Provide input on event templates, process documentation, team planning and training as required.
ExperienceEssential skills, knowledge and achievements

Qualified in project management.

Proven experience managing large-scale public or stakeholder events.

Proven experience of budget management.

Experience working with third-party suppliers, contractors and venue teams.

Experience working in the shooting, countryside or conservation sectors.

Experience with exhibition design or member engagement planning.

Familiarity with health and safety planning (e.g. risk assessments, site management).

IOSH or NEBOSH qualification (or willingness to complete training)

Strong organisational skills.

Ability to lead event planning and execution with minimal supervision.

Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple stakeholders.

Willingness to travel and work flexibly (including evenings/weekends where required).

Ability to use Microsoft project software. 

Able to work as an excellent ambassador for BASC.

General requirements

BASC head office is based in Marford Mill, Rossett, with country and regional offices across the UK.

We have an agile working approach, with our core hours being between 8.30 – 5.30 Monday to Friday. We do expect some weekend and out-of-hours working to support our membership engagement. Your working hours are stated in your contract of employment.

You are expected to be flexible, agile and willing to undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required.
