Role information
The purpose of the head of wild food role is to strategically embed wild food initiatives throughout the organisation, ensuring they are integral to all BASC activities.
This critical position involves developing policies and best practices to support a resilient wild food supply chain, while working closely with government bodies, regulators, and key industry stakeholders.
As a national strategic leader, the head of wild food will advocate for the representation of game meat within the food industry, enhance the visibility and acceptance of wild food, and protect and promote sporting shooting interests. The role requires collaboration with head office teams and regional offices, along with extensive engagement with external partners to drive policy development, establish best practices and achieve these objectives.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities
- Lead and develop a game meat strategy, ensuring game meat is embedded in everything BASC does.
- Lead on the development of pro-active policy that supports a resilient game meat supply chain.
- Build strong links with government departments, regulators and other relevant stakeholders to promote the value of game meat.
- Lead and deliver a successful and viable game meat awards to showcase game meat, the businesses and individuals involved within the industry.
- Lead on the development of game meat quality assurance schemes in partnership with relevant internal teams and in collaboration with external organisations.
- Lead on all relevant consultations and internal policy to ensure game meat is recognised as a priority for shooting and the food industry.
- Lead on the delivery of high standards in wild food by identifying and addressing best practice gaps and embedding existing best practice.
- Manage and develop the wild food brand manager.

General requirements
BASC head office is based in Marford Mill, Rossett, with country and regional offices across the UK.
We have an agile working approach, with our core hours being between 8.30 – 5.30 Monday to Friday. We do expect some weekend and out-of-hours working to support our membership engagement. Your working hours are stated in your contract of employment.
You are expected to be flexible, agile and willing to undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required.
All our employees must always act as positive ambassadors for the association when dealing with members or representing the association in other ways.
