Role information
As a communications executive on BASC’s content team, you will help shape and deliver communications that support our mission and reputation. You will work closely with the head of media and colleagues across the communications directorate to identify, create and distribute high-quality content across multiple channels.
This maternity cover post has a strong focus on social media management, including content planning, publishing, community engagement and performance reporting. You will also work closely with BASC’s marketing and membership recruitment team, supporting their campaigns through compelling, targeted communications and digital content.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities
- Help deliver BASC’s communications strategy across online and offline channels, ensuring our key messages are shared clearly, fairly and accurately.
- Manage BASC’s social media channels day-to-day, ensuring consistent content, strong engagement and a trusted digital presence.
- Work collaboratively with the marketing and membership recruitment team to support campaign delivery and optimise content for audience reach and membership growth.
- Create, adapt and repurpose content across multiple formats including digital, print, broadcast and live/event communications.
- Develop and maintain the skills needed to operate across content team functions and proactively pursue training and development opportunities.
- Content creation and delivery: Research, source and produce content for a wide range of platforms, including press releases, blog posts, newsletters, website updates, magazine content, podcasts and social media. Ensure all content is accurate, engaging, accessible and aligned to BASC’s tone of voice and brand guidelines. Work to tight deadlines, balancing planned content with reactive communications needs.
- Social media management (primary focus): Plan, create and publish social media content across BASC channels, maintaining a clear content calendar and consistent posting schedule. Create and curate platform-appropriate content (including graphics, reels/short-form video, stories and community updates). Monitor comments, messages and engagement, responding appropriately and escalating sensitive issues when required. Stay up to date with social media platform changes and trends, recommending improvements and new opportunities for audience growth and engagement. Support paid/boosted social content when required, working with colleagues or agencies to maximise campaign performance. Track and report social media performance and campaign results, providing insight-led recommendations for improvement. Help maintain social governance and best practice, including moderation approach and content approvals where required.
- Campaigns, PR and stakeholder engagement: Support the planning and delivery of public relations activity, campaigns, events and announcements, ensuring consistent messaging. Assist in building relationships with journalists, bloggers and media outlets, supporting pitching and media coordination. Support crisis and reactive communications, including social media response where appropriate. Work with regional teams to support communications for game fairs, conferences, seminars and trade shows, including live social coverage when needed. Provide day-to-day communications support to internal colleagues and help coordinate messaging across the organisation. Assist with the production and proofing of key publications such as the shooting and conservation magazine and other internal/external reports.

Degree or professional qualification in communications, public relations or a related field (or equivalent experience). Proven experience in a communications role, with a strong portfolio of content and campaign delivery. Demonstrable experience of social media management, including planning, publishing, community engagement and performance reporting. Creative, proactive and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. | Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail. Confidence producing digital content assets (e.g. basic graphics, short-form video editing, image selection/editing). Proficiency with social media management and analytics tools. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and with external partners. Familiarity with media monitoring and PR tools is desirable. Knowledge and understanding of shooting, the countryside and the current key issues affecting the sector, with the ability to communicate confidently and accurately on these topics. Understanding of online community dynamics and moderation, including handling sensitive issues appropriately. |
General requirements
BASC head office is based in Marford Mill, Rossett, with country and regional offices across the UK.
We have an agile working approach, with our core hours being between 8.30 – 5.30 Monday to Friday. We do expect some weekend and out-of-hours working to support our membership engagement. Your working hours are stated in your contract of employment.
You are expected to be flexible, agile and willing to undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required.
