Head of marketing

Salary: Circa £45k

Role information

To lead the marketing function, develop and execute strategic marketing initiatives that drive membership growth, enhance engagement, and strengthen BASC’s brand presence.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement the overall marketing strategy in line with BASC’s objectives.
  2. Lead the marketing team, setting priorities, goals and key performance indicators
  3. Oversee brand positioning, ensuring consistency across all literature, events and digital channels.
  4. Design and implement creative, insight-led campaigns that effectively communicate BASC’s values and drive engagement across diverse audiences.
  5. Work with communications to develop high impact offline and online ads. Own the membership media strategy and liaise with media buyers/publication owners as required. 
  6. Support high-profile campaigns and initiatives that align with BASC’s mission.
  7. Lead market research initiatives to understand audience needs and opportunities for growth.
  8. Manage budgets, ensuring the best return on investment for marketing activities.
  9. Manage stakeholder relationships, including members, partners and industry organisations.
  10. Represent BASC at industry events and networking opportunities.
  11. Oversee BASC’s brand presence at key events and exhibitions, ensuring a strong and consistent brand image that enhances member engagement and industry recognition.
  12. Lead on key marketing projects, including the implementation of marketing automation tools to improve efficiency, enhance data-driven decision-making and increase member retention.
  13. Work closely with the head of member experience to align marketing campaigns and membership initiatives, ensuring a seamless journey from member acquisition to retention and engagement.
  14. Stay updated with the latest marketing technologies, tools and trends to drive innovation and efficiency. Leverage data analytics, automation tools and customer relationship management (CRM) systems to optimise marketing campaigns and improve member targeting. 
  15. Drive digital transformation through innovative marketing technologies and strategies.
ExperienceEssential skills, knowledge and achievements

Degree or professional qualification in marketing, business, or communications (CIM preferred) desirable

Extensive experience in a senior marketing role, with leadership responsibilities

Expertise in digital marketing, branding, and campaign management

Proven experience in CRM systems, marketing automation, and digital transformation projects

Strong leadership and team management skills

Strategic thinker with a track record of developing and implementing marketing strategies

Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities

Data-driven decision-making skills with experience in performance analysis

A strong understanding of membership organisations, shooting sports and conservation is advantageous

Time management, able to prioritise and achieve deadlines

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Enthusiastic, approachable and an excellent team player

Able to work positively within the spirit of BASC’s vision and core values

General requirements

BASC head office is based in Marford Mill, Rossett, with country and regional offices across the UK.

We have an agile working approach, with our core hours being between 8.30 – 5.30 Monday to Friday. We do expect some weekend and out-of-hours working to support our membership engagement. Your working hours are stated in your contract of employment.

You are expected to be flexible, agile and willing to undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required.

All our employees must always act as a positive ambassador for the association when dealing with members or representing the association in other ways.
