Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Can I bring non-members to club shoots, and are they covered by insurance?
BASC affiliated clubs/syndicates can invite occasional guests to shoot with them and enjoy cover under the insurance policy. However, participation must be officially recorded, noting their name, DOB, address and the date and activity they were undertaking. The number of guests cannot exceed the number of paid affiliated members present at the shoot or event.
Any guests, such as probationary or prospective guests, who shoot on a regular basis with the group will not be considered ‘occasional’ and should be members in their own right.
I am hosting an event at our club, are we covered?
Affiliated clubs/syndicates can take advantage of the additional public liability cover for the events that are held for fundraising, education or raising awareness. For example, a fundraising BBQ and clay shoot to celebrate a club’s 50th anniversary would be covered. We simply ask that you notify BASC in advance with the events details, including the date and a brief description. Once received, we will then confirm the cover is in place.
Does BASC support clubs if we wish to undertake a conservation or research project?
Yes, BASC offers a range of support for clubs looking to undertake conservation or research projects. Our regional and country teams can provide site visits and expert guidance across all shooting disciplines. We also offer online resources and specialist advice to assist clubs through our dedicated discipline-focused departments. Additionally, the BASC Wildlife fund provides financial support, including loans for land purchases and grants (both small and large) for conservation and research projects. We strongly believe that the future of sustainable shooting depends on sound evidence, and we are committed to supporting clubs in this vital work.
Does the insurance cover provide include shoot management activities outside of the season?
Yes, BASC’s insurance cover is in place year-round and includes essential shoot management work, both before and after the shooting season. This covers vital tasks such as pest and predator control, litter picks, habitat creation, pen repairs, and ride clearing. If it is connected to recreational shooting and complies with the law, your BASC-affiliated membership will provide the necessary cover you need.
What If I am already a BASC member?
If you already have a BASC membership and your club/syndicate collect an additional membership fee from you, you may be eligible for a refund. Please get in touch with BASC’s membership team who will be able to advise.
