High Court green lights BASC judicial review against NE

BASC has secured permission from the High Court to proceed on all grounds in its Judicial Review challenge against Natural England (NE).

The legal challenge relates to NE’s approach to licensing the release of pheasants and red-legged partridges on or near Special Protection Areas in England. BASC initiated proceedings to seek clarity, fairness and a lawful framework for shoots and land managers affected by the current system.

BASC’s chief executive, Ian Bell, said: “This is excellent news for our members and for everyone involved in sustainable game management. Securing permission from the High Court on all grounds recognises the strength of our case and is a positive step towards achieving a fairer, clearer licensing system.

“It also demonstrates the value of BASC’s Fighting Fund, a unique resource that enables us to take decisive legal action to protect our members’ interests when it matters most.”

BASC will be providing further updates for members next week.
