The results of last week’s Scottish Parliament and Senedd elections will provide opportunities to showcase the benefits of shooting and conservation to newly elected and returning MSPs and MSs.
BASC Scotland director Peter Clark said the result in Scotland was a chance for BASC to build on its political work and develop a pro-shooting and conservation group within parliament.
And BASC Wales director Steve Griffiths said he welcomed the opportunity to engage positively with the new administration to ensure the voices of responsible shooting, conservation and the wider rural economy were heard at the heart of the Welsh government.
Peter Clark said: “The election results in Scotland show that parties will have to work together, with no-one securing a majority. This is a significant opportunity for BASC to build on its lobbying work and to develop a pro-shooting and conservation group within parliament.
“We would like to thank our members for feeding into our manifesto, attending our election hustings and for contacting their local political candidates. The next five years will be crucial for shooting and conservation, that is why we worked hard to engage with all candidates from across the political spectrum.
“BASC looks forward to engaging with all 129 MSPs and is already planning events and engagements to showcase the best of Scottish shooting and conservation.”
Steve Griffiths said: “BASC Wales congratulates Plaid Cymru on winning the Welsh election and looks forward to working constructively with ministers in the years ahead.
“We would also like to congratulate all returning MSs and to welcome new MSs to their new roles, we look forward to working with them in the future.
“Rural Wales depends on balanced, practical policymaking that supports the countryside, sustainable land management and the communities that live and work within it. We welcome the opportunity to engage positively with the new administration to ensure the voices of responsible shooting, conservation and the wider rural economy are heard at the heart of the Welsh government.
“Shooting delivers significant environmental, economic and social benefits across Wales, and BASC Wales stands ready to work collaboratively with the new government to help secure a thriving future for the Welsh countryside.”
