BASC Wales Swaps Wrexham for Westminster

The BASC Wales team recently met Andrew Ranger MP at BASC’s headquarters, before joining him a few days later at his Wrexham Showcase event in Westminster.

Discussions focused on a range of key issues affecting the countryside and rural communities during Wrexham MP Andrew Ranger’s visit to BASC’s head office at Marford Mill, near Wrexham.

The meeting provided an opportunity to brief Mr Ranger on the recent British bird quarry species consultation, as well as discussing the work of BASC’s Welsh Affairs Committee. We also highlighted the important role BASC Wales has played in supporting hospitality students at Coleg Cambria through a range of engagement projects.

BASC Wales director Steve Griffiths said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Andrew Ranger MP to our headquarters at Marford Mill and to discuss the wide range of work BASC undertakes across Wales. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to brief him on key policy issues, including the recent Schedule 2 consultation, and to demonstrate the positive impact our engagement projects are having within local communities.”

Wrexham Showcase

Fast-forward to the Wrexham Showcase a few days later; an event celebrating the wealth of business, industry and opportunity the city has to offer. Held in Westminster, the showcase brought together a range of organisations and companies local to Wrexham, including JCB, Wrexham Lager and Kellogg’s.

Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens MP delivered a speech alongside fellow Welsh MPs, highlighting the importance of businesses and associations that contribute to the Welsh economy and communities.

For BASC, the Westminster event provided valuable opportunities to engage with parliamentarians and stakeholders from across the UK.

Steve said: “Attending the Wrexham Showcase in Westminster was a fantastic opportunity to highlight BASC’s role as an employer and a leading countryside organisation.

“We were grateful for Mr Ranger’s support and recognition of our work in Wrexham, and it was encouraging to engage with politicians from across the UK about the important contribution  shooting, conservation and land management make to rural communities.”
