BASC talks shooting on Farming Today

A autumn woodland landscape

BASC has kicked off a shooting focused week on Farming Today discussing shooting’s role in the countryside, self-regulation and BASC’s conservation work.

BASC’s director of conservation, Caroline Bedell, spoke of how avian influenza has interrupted this season and the knock on effects, with lower numbers of gamebirds being released.

Caroline was asked about releasing pheasants at this time of record avian influenza, she responded by explaining that as an organisation we are confident that we are not adding to the issue. She also added that game shooting is being responsible, working with Defra and APHA under the guidance and minimising the risk where we can.
