A group of BASC members recently enjoyed the opportunity to try Olympic shooting disciplines under the guidance of British Shooting coaches.
BASC’s Olympic shooting discipline event, held at Griffin Lloyd Shooting Ground in late August, was supervised by British Shooting-accredited coaches Anita North (Olympic Trap) and Katy Poulsom (Olympic Skeet).
This was the fourth time in two years that BASC Wales has teamed up with British Shooting to host these events, inspiring almost 50 members to try Olympic discipline shooting and learn the skills required.
The sessions have been hosted at two fantastic venues, Fauxdegla International Shooting Ground and Griffin Lloyd Shooting Ground. They have the Olympic target facilities and often see Wales and Great Britain shooters training or competing there.
BASC is keen to break down barriers to encourage more shooters to try these disciplines. The events also provide opportunities to spot new talent and recruit them on to pathway programmes for future Olympic Games.
The feedback from these events has been hugely positive, with most participants finding it an exciting, enjoyable new challenge, while also learning new skills. Many have stuck at it in the hopes of representing their country in the future.
Thank you to all the athletes that have supported these events, especially BASC-sponsored OTR shooter, Chloe Davies. She has demonstrated her outstanding skills and commitment to achieving her dream of representing Great Britain in her sport.
Reflecting on the events, BASC Wales engagement manager David Boden said: “These days have been exceptionally well received. It proves that clay pigeon shooting sports are really for everyone to enjoy and be inspired by. A big thankyou to the owners and staff at both shooting grounds for all their hard work and support.”
