Advocating for the future of shooting

The British Shooting Show (BSS) is more than just an exhibition -it’s a vital gathering for the shooting community, industry professionals, and conservation advocates. Held each year at Birmingham’s NEC, it serves as a platform to discuss pressing issues, showcase innovation, and celebrate the role of shooting in the UK’s rural landscape.

For BASC, the show is an invaluable opportunity to engage directly with members, promote our work, and highlight the positive impact of sustainable shooting practices. This year saw an enthusiastic crowd across all three days, with our stand bustling with visitors keen to learn more about our advocacy, training, and conservation efforts.

Expert advice

A key focus for BASC at this year’s event was the urgent need for reform in firearms licensing. With several police firearms licensing departments in attendance, we encouraged open discussions on the challenges facing certificate holders, pressing for a system that is both fair and efficient. Our team also provided expert advice on licensing queries, ensuring attendees left the show well-informed and supported.

Conservation remains at the heart of what we do, and it was inspiring to see so many people keen to discuss how responsible shooting supports wildlife and habitat management. From discussions on sustainable game management to our latest conservation initiatives, BASC remains committed to demonstrating how shooting and conservation go hand in hand.

The next generation

Another major talking point was the importance of education and skills development within the sector. We welcomed representatives from City & Guilds, offering visitors insights into training pathways and qualifications that can support careers in shooting, land management, and conservation. Ensuring the next generation is well-equipped to take on these roles is a key part of BASC’s long-term strategy.

What truly sets BSS apart is its role in bringing together a diverse community, all united by a shared passion for the countryside and shooting sports. It’s an opportunity to reconnect, share knowledge, and shape the future of our sector.

What's next?

As we look ahead, BASC is gearing up for the Stalking Show at Stafford Showground on 12 -13 April. We look forward to meeting more members, continuing important discussions, and strengthening our community. See you there!
