BASC has launched a new initiative to encourage youngsters to get into the countryside to take a closer look at nature.

Youngsters can solve clues on three BASC Young Shots Countryside Detectives posters – mammals, birds and plant life/ trees – to discover each of the species and habitats mentioned.

Once each has been found, the posters can be returned to BASC in exchange for an official BASC Countryside Detectives badge.

David Ilsley, BASC’s head of marketing and membership services, said: “Becoming a BASC Countryside Detective is a fun way to spend time at weekends and during the school holidays. There will be a range of information sheets available on the Young Shots section of the BASC website, covering all sorts of environments, plants and animals. Can you find them all? Plus there will be competitions to take part in as well as special badges when you complete a task and other great freebies.”

BASC chairman Peter Glenser QC said: “This initiative provides a great opportunity for our Young Shots to really get out into the countryside and take a closer look at nature and their surroundings. Anything BASC can do to help them understand more about species and habitats at a young age can only be a good thing.”

The posters can be downloaded here or you can contact to get the kit sent out.
