Capable, convenient, and classy SUV

The G05 BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury SUV , It is the fourth, and current, generation of the BMW X5 and it’s still very much a leader on the luxury front.

An important factor in a large luxurious SUV is space, and the BMW X5 offers plenty of it, those in the front will have no complaints about leg or head room. BMW’s generosity with space continues in the back seats. Two tall adults will comfortably sit behind those in the front, while a third won’t be sounding off on a long journey either.

The M50d is the top of the range– a diesel of the same size as the 30d (365hp), but with, wait for it, four turbochargers. That means 400hp and even more torque, resulting in a 0-62mph time of just 5.2 seconds.

In town, despite its size, it isn’t daunting to manoeuvre thanks to good visibility for the driver through its tall wide windows, standard front and rear parking sensors and parking assistant. On twisty country roads, it continues to excel. It steers with precision and handles well – particularly in its firmer setting.

It’s a comfortable experience, too; the X5’s standard adaptive air suspension does a good job of soaking up ruts, potholes and broken Tarmac in its most comfortable setting. When off-roading, you can see video images of each individual X5 wheel on the infotainment screen, as if you were viewing them from outside.

You might have guessed, then, that there’s very little wrong with the BMW X5. It is supremely quick, comfortable, spacious and luxurious large SUV.
