Make sure shooting’s voice is heard in Europe

eu_flag_320Shooting will be brought to the attention of candidates in the May European elections through a contact website developed by the UK’s largest shooting organisation.

The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) is calling on its members and everyone who shoots to lobby their candidates. The site will allow people to give their views to their candidates and support BASC’s campaign to secure sensible, safe and sustainable legislation on shooting.

People can check their candidates’ view on shooting, email candidates to establish their position if they have not recorded one, inform them of their views and invite candidates to find out more about shooting.

Christopher Graffius, BASC’s director of communications, said: “Many of the pressures on shooting come from Europe. Participation in European elections is therefore as important as taking part in national elections. BASC works to ensure that all political parties support shooting sports. We do this in Europe by working through FACE, the European federation of shooting organisations, and with individual MEPs to inform them about the benefits of shooting and conservation and to make sure shooting’s voice is heard in Europe.”

If you use the site to email candidates, please copy the response you receive to politics@basc.org.uk

Elections to the European Parliament will be held on Thursday 22 May 2014. Most of the results will be announced on Sunday 25 May, after voting has closed throughout the 28 member states.
