Turning The Tide, Red Squirrel Conference is aimed at bringing together like minded groups and individuals working for one goal, but often without knowledge of, or reference to each other.

It also provides an opportunity for people working on the ground in squirrel conservation and control to learn from leading experts in the field, and hear from projects and research nationally. We would also like to raise the profile of efforts to reintroduce red squirrels across the country, particularly in the South West and Wales.

Turning The Tide

  • Our hope for the south west of England, being a peninsular, is that effective clearance of grey squirrels can be achieved, following the example of the numerous volunteers maintaining a cordon sanitaire across the north of England.
  • This conference also aims to dissolve some of the barriers stalling a national conservation strategy, by attempting to develop both personal and inter-organisational connections.
  • We have therefore assembled some of the leading players in the UK to speak on their work to prevent the extinction of red squirrels on our island.
