9:30 am - 4:00 pm
We are inviting Young Shots to join us on an exciting Macnab challenge where they will be given the opportunity to shoot simulated grouse, fly fish on the lake of Kelmarsh Hall and learn how to stalk into a deer.
The 12 Young Shots will be split into groups of four and will be accompanied by a ghillie who will guide them through the activities. Each activity will start with tuition/ coaching before the challenge begins.
Simulated Grouse – A BASC coach will give the Young Shots a clay shooting lesson before they shoot a grouse flush over purpose built grouse butts. Their challenge is to hit a brace.
Fly Fishing – The Young Shots will be given fly fishing coaching before they are tasked with getting their flies into a floating hoop.
Deer Stalking – In the woods the Young Shots will be taught about gun safety, shot placement and the legalities of shooting deer. They will then practise their target shooting with an air rifle before moving onto a simulated stalk with a deer stalking ghillie. Their aim is to shoot the deer target within the kill zone (chest shot). They will be using air rifles in this scenario but will be taught about the importance of the correct deer calibre rifles.
The aim is to shoot two simulated grouse, get their flies into the floating hoop and correctly hit the deer target to achieve the Mini-Macnab Challenge. At the end of the day there will be drinks and prize-giving with parents, Young Shots and staff.
All equipment is provided but Young Shots will require a packed lunch
