The Intermediate Deer Course (IDC)  is a two day course designed as a step between DSC1 and DSC2. The aim of the course is to prepare students for undertaking their DSC2, and to help DSC1 holders gain further practical experience in the field.

The course is designed to show the safe and correct way of shooting deer, retrieving, gralloching, inspecting and lardering the carcass. It allows everyone to be supervised on their first cull and provides practical experience in preparing the carcass for human consumption.

On completion of this course you will be issued with the BASC Intermediate Deer Course certificate.

The BASC Intermediate Deer Course comprises of:-

  • Stalking the deer or shooting from a high seat
  • Taking the shot and reaction to shot
  • Approaching the deer and follow up
  • Extracting and transporting the carcass
  • Gralloching and inspection of the carcass

Feedback from Students

    • I attended the Intermediate Deer Course on the 17th and 18th November 2017  in Baronscourt and have to say it more than lived up to expectations. Having  previously completed my DSC1 at the same venue I was confident that this new course would be of benefit but to be honest it was far more than I expected, the caliber of the trainers on hand and the way in which they shared their years of stalking knowledge was fantastic.  I set out on my first day like an elephant and graduated after 3 stalks like a ninja, it was great to see these guys in action and learn from them. After this course I am much more confident that I have the abilities to safely and humanely despatch an animal on a stalk and also prepare the carcass for consumption. Thanks to the BASC team for being great hosts and teachers, I look forward to continuing on my stalking journey with them in the future.   – FH – Co Armagh
    • I found the course which was held at Baronscourt to be a very useful practical guide. For a relatively novice stalker such as myself it was a very clear guide of the process from stalk to larder. How to physically handle a kill was something I needed to be guided through rather than just hear about.  DH – Co Tyrone
    • Many thanks to Tommy and the team for a great day out in Barronscourt. After completing the DSC1 course, I cannot recommend the IDC course enough. The experience, tips and information I gained from the guys on the stalk is something that would have taken me years to gain.  A well constructed course with a great bunch of guys.  PH – Co Down
    • Thanks to the BASC NI team for a memorable two days at Baronscourt Estate. You promised the course would be “in the field” learning where we would get our hands dirty. Well you delivered and I learned a wealth of practical stalking knowledge over the two days. Before the course I was hesitant to take on a gralloch myself, but five Sika deer gralloch’s later I’m confident I can do the job.  In conclusion by the evening of day two I was educated, exhilarated and exhausted.- SM – County Antrim
