BASC and the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) are hosting a joint course for people to improve both their shooting and shoot management skills.

A Shooting for the Future course will be held at the GWCT Allerton Project visitor centre in Loddington, Leicestershire, on 28th April.

The day will start with a presentation from BASC on improving your shooting and then there will be talks by GWCT experts on game bird management to maximise shoot productivity and conservation benefits.

There will be a guided tour of the GWCT’s showcase game shoot, with an opportunity to see a shoot run to best practice standards.

The afternoon will focus on shooting skills with BASC-accredited coaches and will cover range judging and patterning.

The day will finish with a simulated game drive on one of Loddington’s iconic pheasant drives. Participants will be supervised by loaders who will be on hand to provide guidance and assistance.

There will be opportunities for questions throughout the day.

Peter Marshall from BASC said: “This is a great opportunity for people to improve their shooting skills and their understanding of shoot management. Shooters of all levels will be able to gain an insight into the best practice in game shooting. Not only will our experts be available with practical hints and tips on shoot management, but they will also help candidates analyse and improve their own shooting skills.”

Roger Draycott from the GWCT said: “This course provides a great opportunity for shooters to ensure they are up to speed with current best practice in both shooting and game management.”
