BASC .410 World Championship 2018

Thanks to all of the competitors who joined us for the BASC .410 World Championships at the Mid-Wales Shooting Centre on Saturday 22nd September.

Congratulations to Nick Beavis our ‘2018 World Champion’ who once again shot extremely well to retain his 2017 title with a winning score of 47 ex 50. Thanks to the generosity of our event sponsors Nick took home a fantastic winner’s package of 1000 Gamebore cartridges, a Yildiz .410 Shotgun, prize cup and salver, and a William Powell .410 leather cartridge belt.

Comprising of 50 sporting targets shot over seven stands, the main competition devised by Jonathan Williams has always provided a fair but challenging course. This year was no exception especially the report pair of pheasants off the tower. A good mix of sporting targets (all within 35 yards) set up around the pond area initially appeared easy but soon put our competitors to the test. Damp conditions and a changeable breeze throughout the day meant predictions for a high winning score were difficult to judge. However, undeterred by the Welsh weather an excellent 118 entries were registered with participants expressing their enjoyment of the event.

The pool shoot also proved to be highly competitive with only two shooters scoring 7 from 8 targets which resulted in a shoot off at the end of the day to determine the first and second place winners.

With thanks to our main event sponsors Gamebore for donating five thousand .410 cartridges to the prize funds for the main classes, World Champion and pool shoot.

For the second year running we welcomed Yildiz UK who awarded the World Champion a Yildiz .410 Shotgun and we were also joined by the team from William Powell who kindly donated .410 leather cartridge belts to the prize fund.

The .410 is the smallest of the popular shotgun gauges, firing a light charge of pellets, and would normally be used as an entry-level gun for young people and for close-quarter pest control.
