BASC .410 World Championship 2018
Thanks to all of the competitors who joined us for the BASC .410 World Championships at the Mid-Wales Shooting Centre on Saturday 22nd September.
Congratulations to Nick Beavis our ‘2018 World Champion’ who once again shot extremely well to retain his 2017 title with a winning score of 47 ex 50. Thanks to the generosity of our event sponsors Nick took home a fantastic winner’s package of 1000 Gamebore cartridges, a Yildiz .410 Shotgun, prize cup and salver, and a William Powell .410 leather cartridge belt.
Comprising of 50 sporting targets shot over seven stands, the main competition devised by Jonathan Williams has always provided a fair but challenging course. This year was no exception especially the report pair of pheasants off the tower. A good mix of sporting targets (all within 35 yards) set up around the pond area initially appeared easy but soon put our competitors to the test. Damp conditions and a changeable breeze throughout the day meant predictions for a high winning score were difficult to judge. However, undeterred by the Welsh weather an excellent 118 entries were registered with participants expressing their enjoyment of the event.
The pool shoot also proved to be highly competitive with only two shooters scoring 7 from 8 targets which resulted in a shoot off at the end of the day to determine the first and second place winners.
With thanks to our main event sponsors Gamebore for donating five thousand .410 cartridges to the prize funds for the main classes, World Champion and pool shoot.
For the second year running we welcomed Yildiz UK who awarded the World Champion a Yildiz .410 Shotgun and we were also joined by the team from William Powell who kindly donated .410 leather cartridge belts to the prize fund.

Nick is crowned .410 World Championships winner – finally!
A record number of entries were taken this year’s BASC .410 World Championships – a clay-shooting competition using the smallest-calibre shotgun in general use which were held at the Mid Wales Shooting Centre in Caersws, Powys, and WAS sponsored by Gamebore Cartridges.
Nick Beavis was crowned .410 World Champion with a fantastic score of 49/50.
Meurig Rees from BASC Wales who has run the event since 2005 said: “We saw a record number of entries this year with 144. The competition was held over 50 sporting targets consisting of a mixture of crossers, teal, rabbits and loopers to test the skills of the competitors.
The standard of shooting at this year’s event was very high, with numerous scores in the 40s and the vast number in the high 30s. Many thanks to all who have supported this event over the years, the new faces we meet every year and to the main sponsors Gamebore Cartridges and to Arthur and Johnathan Williams of Mid Wales Shooting Centre who kindly host the event for us together with a donation to the prize fund for the class winners .
Congratulations to Nick Beavis who was crowed World Champion with a score of 49/50. Nick has competed on previous occasions and has come close to winning on numerous occasion but this year he managed to take the winning place.
Congratulations to him and to all who took part. I look forward to seeing you all again in 2018”
The World Champion and high gun of each class received a Challenge trophy which they keep for a year, a salver to keep as a memento of their achievement and a quantity of .410 Gamebore cartridges.
People who took second and third place in each class received Gamebore cartridges. Nick Bevis, as overall high gun, was presented with the .410 World Championship Challenge Cup.
The .410 is the smallest of the popular shotgun gauges, firing a light charge of pellets, and would normally be used as an entry-level gun for young people and for close-quarter pest control.
Gamebore Cartridges and Mid Wales Shooting Centre have agreed to support this event in the future, further details to follow.
