Gamekeepers and shoot managers who lack the qualification to sell meat to game dealers can still attend an accredited BASC training course this year.
BASC training officer, Nick Lane, said: "The demand for the courses has diminished over the last two years as the majority of gamekeepers and shoot managers have now been trained. However, BASC will continue to hold a limited number of these courses in 2008 for those people who have not had the chance to get their meat hygiene qualification yet.”
BASC has already trained over 2,000 of its members and will be running a series of courses this spring. To sell to an Approved Game Handling Facilities (AGHE), game must be inspected by a qualified person to ensure it is safe to enter the food chain and meet the requirements of the Food Hygiene regulations 2004.
