Police LightsHer Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) has invited The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) to participate as a member of a specially convened External Reference Group (ERG) to support their forthcoming thematic inspection of firearms licencing across twelve individual police forces in England and Wales.

HMIC regularly conducts themed in-depth scrutiny of individual forces across areas of police activity and then makes individual and national recommendations for organisational learning and improvement. The inspections are planned to be completed and reported on by the end of June 2015.

The ERG, which will also include representation from across a number of other relevant bodies including; the Home Office, the Crown Prosecution Service, the College of Policing, the  BSSC and academics will be asked to debate, challenge and inform the inspection.

BASC welcomes the invitation from Her Majesty’s Inspector Stephen Otter to take part in this process.
