IMG_0023A great family day out is promised on the weekend of the 12th and 13th of April at Catton Park, Walton on Trent, Derbyshire, with a two-day game and country fair organised by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).

Visitors to the BASC Gamekeepers’ Fair will be able to shop at more than 200 quality trade stands, see entertaining arena demonstrations and enjoy some wonderful food and drink. Not to be missed are the cooking demonstrations in the food village featuring TV chef Tim Maddams, the wild chef Ralph Skripek, Rayeesa’s Indian Kitchen and the Seasoned Cookery School.

The Kids’ Zone will feature free interactive activities including JCB ride-ons, carpentry workshops with Funky Monkey Carpentry, a taste of the forest with Mountain Munchkins and, for all those budding survival experts, new supervised bushcraft activities. Youngsters can also be in with a chance to win an iPod Touch, a MacBook Air and an iPad 2 when they visit the Kids’ Zone and enter the free prize draw.

People can take a clay-shooting lesson with a BASC-accredited shotgun coach and enter a range of competitions including the BASC gundog scurry league, dog agility with Capable Canines, pigeon plucking with the Eat Wild brothers and clay shooting contests.

BASC Central director, Steve Bloomfield said: “The BASC Gamekeepers’ Fair is always an enjoyable event and offers a fantastic day out for all the family. This year there are even more activities and demonstrations to enjoy and we are looking forward to meeting new people and catching up with familiar faces over the course of the event.”

The fair will be open from 9am until 5pm on both days and experts from BASC will be on hand to answer questions on all aspects of shooting and conservation. Tickets cost £8.00 for adults advance and £10 on the gate, children up to the age of 15 go in free. For more details click here.
